titled “Best Foot Forward”. The plot
was centered around an unsuccessful

Pepping up fans at the Granite athletic events during the school year were
five lively and enthusiastic cheerleaders. Regardless of whether we were winning
or losing, these girls kept the spectators applauding and yelling for the Warriors.
Much of the Warriors success was due to their energetic cheering.
The new advisor, Mrs. Hauff, did a wonderful job of sparking the cheer-
leaders.

The Board of Education is a group of well-established, intelligent men, who
preside over the many school problems presented by the schools of this commun-
ity. The Board has done wonders for our high school and has helped us with
our new additions. These will give us twenty new classrooms, a new machine
shop, and a welding shop, when completed.
The Board has supported the school in all its endeavors and they deserve
our sincere thanks for their help and leadership.
Dr. Harold M. Kaiser
ojuL j4uut. SitfmfdvUait
Dr. Harold M. Kaiser, our Superintendent, is a valuable as-
set to the school and the community because of his competent lead-
ership and his radiant personality. He constantly strives to develop
the highest possible level of education in our school system, and
also to maintain the present high standards of our school. With-
out the earnest help and supervision of this remarkable individual
our school could not prosper as it has.

Schmitt, had a very exciting season. It ended
the season with 4 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie.
Larry Corey, Roger Bloodsworth, Vic Beeler,
and Charlie Haug helped spark the team
throughout the year.
We are looking forward to the Sopho-
mores carrying on the tradition of the Granite

WRESTLING — Coach Schmitt, Captain Mike Trgovich, Assistant
Coach Fedora.
Lnder the watchful eyes of coaches, William Schmitt and Joe Fedora, the
Warrior wrestling team was again tops in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis
area. In 1959, they tackled one of their toughest schedules in recent years, and
concluded a highly successful season by winning first place at the Normal Invita-
tional Tournament at Normal. Illinois.
Again, this year. Granite City was host for the Freshman-Sophomore Tourna-
ment and the Sectional Wrestling Tournament. We of Granite City Senior High
School are confident that next year the Warriors will again have a wonderful
year.

Although afflicted by accidents. Coach Dick Harmon’s
Warriors had a good year. With a group of Juniors and
Sophomores who showed real determination to earn a
place on the team and lettermen from last year who
added strength to the team the Warriors ran hard all
year long.
Led bv Gayneli Roblin and David Moss, the team
finished in good form in all the meets and tournaments.

The Happy Warriors, under the able coaching of Andy Sullivan, finished
up the season with a 26-6 record. The Warriors won the Regional Champion-
ship by defeating Collinsville by seven points. They also won the Sectional by
beating Pinkneyville by nine points. This was the first time in twenty years a
Granite team has been able to make such outstanding achievements.
The Warriors were beaten in the first round of the State Tournament by West
Frankfort in a “sudden death” overtime. The Warrior captains were Carl
Wortham and “All-Stater.” Rich Williams. Rich was third in the Conference scor-
ing race with a 21.3 point per-game average. Bob Price, a transfer from Madi-
son, helped the team tremendously with his passing and shooting.
The Warriors participated in the Centralia Holiday Tourney, one of the
toughest in the state, and placed second, just behind Pinkneyville.
We are looking forward to as fine a season next year, as two juniors, Frank
Knight and Jim Simpson, will be returning.

were John Rains and David Dumoulin.

The Granite City Senior High School tennis team
under the able coaching of Hick Harmon came through
in fine style with an undefeated season of 11 wins and 0
losses. This is the first time in 9 years that this has hap-
pened. With the hacking of Jerry O’Guinn, team captain,
and Gary Wiesman. Terry Husick. and Dave Moss, three
outstanding players, they were able to clinch the South-
western Conference Championship, and take 2nd in Dis-
trict. Dave Moss went to state in singles and Jerry O’-
Guinn and Jim Spudick in doubles. With the return of
the majority of players. Coach Harmon is again looking
forward to another fine season.
Cary Wiesman, Editor; Jeanette Skubish, Assistant Editor
We, as editors of the Warrior Yearbook, close the seventh edition with a
feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment, since we have been able to capture
nostalgic memories and compile them in a handy packet to be preserved and re-
ferred to in our future years.
Our achievements through high school will always be remembered as the
base for success, and our social highlights, proms, plays, and sports participation,
will be magnified in importance, in years to come. We are, therefore, grateful
to all who have been instrumental in assisting us, and we hope that this book
brings to each of you the satisfaction that we feel in our accomplishment. With
these thoughts in mind, we close the last page of the 1960 Warrior.
We would like to express our appreciation to all those who participated, and
especially to:
